From coffee process, roasting, brewing to tasting, this course gives a general overview of coffee’s supply chain.   • SCA Barista Skills Foundation

    The SCA The Barista Skills Foundation course focuses on the key skills required to set a grinder, make espresso and foam, and texture milk for cappuccinos. This course allows one to gain an introductory understanding of the coffee itself and set a foundation from which to build practical skills for milk technique and latte art, while implementing health and safety practices and customer service.

  • SCA Barista Skills Intermediate

    The SCA Barista Skills Intermediate course builds on the concepts and skills introduced in the Foundation course. It is ideal for someone who has barista skills experience and wants to explore how to improve coffee quality and prepare for more complex job functions found in the barista profession. Through this interactive course, learners will gain a deeper understanding of the coffee itself, specifically the impact of a coffee’s variety, origins and processing methods on flavor; the parameters of coffee quantity, grind texture, water quality and shot time and their interaction when dialling in a brew recipe; drink construction and taste differences; workflow management and efficiency, sensory aspects of the espresso extraction; milk handling and techniques as well as latte art. In addition to coffee preparation, this course also covers key concepts
    regarding health and safety, customer service and basic business practices.

  • SCA Barista Skills Professional

    The SCA Barista Skills Professional is designed to test advanced skills and detailed knowledge of the science behind processes used, expected from a professional barista (for example, from someone working as a barista for 12 months or more, with some management responsibilities). Successful candidates should have a detailed understanding of their ingredients and of the techniques available to maximize the quality of the drinks made. They should be able to manage the skills of others to produce quality drinks and provide excellent customer service. They should be able to maintain their equipment to ensure continued quality.

  • SCA Brewing Foundation

    The Brewing Foundation course introduces the learner to the different methods of brewing coffee. The learner will receive theoretical and practical hands-on instruction for a range of devices including automatic and manual gravity brewers, as well as other commonly used brewers within their local culture. Learners will also explore how to produce a tasty brew based on an understanding of the essential brewing elements and an analysis of their brew results.

  • SCA Brewing Intermediate

    The SCA Brewing Intermediate Successful completion of the Brewing Foundation and/or 3 to 6 months work experience preparing brews with an automatic drip filter brewer and a manual drip filter brewer or other culturally common brewer is recommended; Successful completion of the Introduction to Coffee and Sensory Skills Foundation also recommended.

  • SCA Sensory Skills Foundation

Practical exams are suited for new cuppers preparing to enter the Q program.

  • SCA Sensory Skills Intermediate

    The SCA Sensory Skills Intermediate enables the student to apply core concepts of sensory science to analyze aroma, taste, and body in coffee. Students will be introduced to various testing methods including triangulation and will progress in their calibration with the SCA cupping form. Students will apply basic requirements for developing a sensory program for their business. Practical exams are suited for experienced cuppers preparing to enter the Q program.

  • SCA Sensory Skills Professional

    The SCA Sensory Skills Professional course aims to take your understanding of the SCA cupping protocol and scientific sensory methods to the highest level. The course is heavily focused on the SCA cupping protocol, which is used throughout the course to evaluate the quality of American, African and Asian coffees respectively. The detection of positive and negative aromas in coffee is practiced to become more precise in your flavour descriptions. Furthermore, at CoffeeMind Academy we emphasize the ability of the student to be able to set up and execute descriptive sensory and consumer tests.

Coffee Diploma System


Coffee is a huge industry, offering many and varied career opportunities. The Coffee Diploma System allows people to choose the education path that most suits their needs. Six different modules exist in different disciplines, each with three levels of qualification, Foundation, Intermediate, and Professional (apart from Introduction to Coffee which is just one level).
For every module you can gain points for each level of qualification taken, and when you have achieved 100 points you will be awarded your overall diploma. It’s your choice on the modules you take to get you 100 points.
