The SCA Skills Diploma recognizes job readiness in the specialty coffee industry through four focused diplomas, each validating the skills and knowledge needed for job-success in the Café, Roastery, Coffee Trade and Sustainability sector.
Each diploma path prescribes 10 courses:
6 Foundation courses
2 Intermediate courses
2 Professional courses
The SCA Skills Diploma program is new for 2023, and will launch in the first half of the year.
Specialty Coffee Association
Coffee Sustainability Program
Sustainability must be embraced by all actors in the value chain if the specialty coffee industry is to survive and thrive. The Coffee Sustainability Program is designed to explore what sustainability means and the challenges of acting sustainably across the coffee value chain.
SCA Café Diploma
The SCA Café Diploma represents someone who is ready to demonstrate leadership in creating, preparing, and promoting specialty coffee experiences, while communicating with customers and colleagues about the retailer’s role in promoting a more sustainable coffee industry. The holder of this diploma is someone who has studied advanced levels in barista skills and coffee brewing, as well as fundamental aspects of roasting, sensory analysis, sustainability, water quality and preventive maintenance.

SCA Roastery Diploma
The SCA Roastery Diploma represents someone who is ready to demonstrate leadership in the development, production and quality assurance of roasted coffee; while communicating with customers and colleagues about the roaster’s role in promoting a more sustainable coffee industry. The holder of this diploma is someone who has studied advanced levels in coffee roasting and sensory analysis, as well as fundamental aspects of extraction, green coffee evaluation, sustainability, water quality and preventive maintenance.
